Well if it’s any consolation, across my last three cards (old desktop, laptop and the refurbished desktop) GW2 has never run personally for me above maybe 30fps when I’m outside of a cutscene somewhere. The only difference is that the old desktop was running lowest settings, laptop was about mid-way if not slightly less, and the new desktop is generally running everything on full.

If you want a semi-decent laptop that can just handle the game admirably and allow you to do most events (though expect some dips in FPS in some areas) you can look for a card like the Radeon HD 6450 or equivalent. Nothing flashy, won’t run everything very well and will require low settings for more intensive games, but it gets the job done. I don’t think a laptop or even desktop with that lower-end last gen card would be too pricey, either.

I’ll see if I can dig up that one website! Will need to break out the laptop for it and dig around in history, but. xD

I’m not super genius at it, but I mean, I have a vague idea?

If you’re going to be getting a gaming laptop, it’s worth while keeping in mind they can get pretty expensive (and not all of them perform as great as you’d expect.) If you have the cash to drop, consider looking for laptops with Nvidia cards, as Nividia generally supports more games than AMD does.

If you’re just thinking about getting a laptop for work instead of gaming, then you can just grab a lappy with a decent i7 processor and 4GB+ of RAM, which will keep it running nice, smooth and fast with enough space for whatever you’re going to put onto it.

I’d also, personally, recommend that if you want to get this desktop/laptop for gaming, get a desktop. Laptops are notoriously ridiculous to replace and/or update, where as a desktop can be upgraded as many times as you see fit. (I recently upgraded my five year old baby with additional power and an Nvidia GeForce 660ti, so although she still isn’t the most up to date gaming rig on the planet, she’s now running better than my laptop could dream of. And, in a few years when I need another upgrade, it should be as simple as buying the new card.)

It’s such a huge misconception that every German soldier was clearly a Nazi fanatic that wanted everything Jewish and non-German dead.

Beyond that, I honestly really hate how humanity in the West will constantly refuse to acknowledge that many of these soldiers were unknowingly manipulated into serving a corrupt dictator because their country was poor, broken and abused by the Allied factions after it lost so badly in the first war.

Hitler took Germany when it was at it’s weakest point and rallied people behind him by manipulating them and taking advantage of themduring their most desperate hour.

These people were as human as the same US and UK soldiers you constantly reblog. They had families. They had people they loved and things they cared for. And they were fighting for their country in the only way they were told how to, because they wanted things to get better.

Next time you want to mock Germany, it’s soldiers or belittle the people there for their past, maybe you should do some fucking research into what happened and maybe you should remember that these German soldiers probably had more humility, humanity and more of a backbone than you ever could.

So I’ve basically just been offered a little female puppy (Belgian Shepherd Terv, like our boys)

I’m really excited, but this obviously poses a bit of a problem. We only have boys here, and we can’t realistically bring a girly into this household for the rest of her life because it wouldn’t be fair on her or our boys when she goes into season.

Therefore, I’m now on a time limit. I need to start saving up some serious money so that I can see about getting a place of my own, probably some kind of “outside office” type of deal that can go over our garage. Although my family have been talking about this for a long time, now we need to make it a reality.

So, as a result, I’m going to be getting myself a new tablet ASAP, and opening commissions. More on that when it comes. I’m also going to take up any little job imaginable that I can do online; online writing, reviews or anything like that. I need every penny I can get. If you know somebody who needs something done like a bunch of writing, graphic work, please just shoot them a message or something.

(Also, before anybody reblogs this with concerns, please be aware I’ve lived with dogs my entire life. We’re going to be able to bring the bitch into the country while she’s a puppy, and we have several months to get set up. We also have the ability to facilitate temporary living spaces for if she comes into season if the unfortunate happens and she comes into season before we’ve gotten my own small space set up.

This dog, and our current boys, are going to be very well cared for. This post wasn’t put up for you to express some social justice “for the animals” concerns as if I haven’t been living with dogs my entire life. You know, Eurovision has really disappointed me in the past, but I honestly think you deserved that win. do you know how hard it is to be a teacher in the current economy? do you know what it’s like to frantically prepare students for standardized tests that contain literally nothing you feel like they need to learn but you have to ensure that they score well on them otherwise not only could you lose your job but also the school could lose funding

which means that funding for resources like

subsidized lunches

computers for the lab

the fucking librarian’s fucking salary

could dry up?

do you know what it would be like to be hired expecting twenty children in a class but then half of your colleagues get fired so you suddenly have forty children in a class? and then if you’re an average middle or high school teacher you have five or six or sometimes seven classes?

yeah in case you can’t do math because you were too busy making fun of your teacher to pay attention, that’s 200 or 240 or fucking 280 students. and at least 75% of them turn in every assignment. and then you have to grade them, knowing that if you don’t assign x amount of papers your class could get audited and, unless you have tenure (which some teachers now don’t get until seven years after they have the job - that’s SEVEN FUCKING YEARS OF NOT KNOWING IF YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE A JOB THE FOLLOWING YEAR) you could lose your job if the administration doesn’t find your class adequate?

also, on top of grading papers, some districts require teacher regularly undergo retraining for students with disabilities, students with english as a second language, sexual assault counseling, bullying prevention, and community relations? and they’re supposed to do all of this on an average salary of $45,000 a year (which is only slightly more than one year of university, aka in order to pay for their undergrad student loans plus their grad school loans they would have to do nothing but pay down loans with their salaries for six fucking years and not buy food or shelter)?

also, side note: teachers do not ever “get the summer off.” they’re planning the shit out of the school year, and attending training days, and researching ways to make their teaching more effective, and handling panicking parents whose students will be entering their classes next year. “summer off” my ass. teachers work as hard during the summer as they do during the school year.

Having worked as a teaching assistant - note, not a teacher but a teaching assistant - I can really appreciate how hard these people have to work for what is actually very little pay.

I didn’t have to organise the lessons, didn’t have to prepare anything, and when I was given my own “sub-class” of six of the lowest performing students to try and help them learn on their level without holding the rest of the class back, I recognise I only got the tiniest taste of how hard being a teacher can be. This doesn’t include a teacher that works in schools specialised to deal with children with learning problems such as autism, who require extra training and need to meet more standards before they even get a job.

Yeah, okay, teachers really suck when you’re a kid.

But one day, my wayward son, you’re going to grow the fuck up and realise not only do most teachers work harder in a week than you ever fucking worked for your non-adult life combined, but you’re going to realise you owe them a fucking lot, too.

At which point you’re going to realise what a complete fuckin’ dumbass you looked when you made this post, you little piece of shit. I hope you feel bad, because you certainly should.

so today at school i had a dean walk up to me and tell me “you need to cover up.” i thought he was talking about the shoulders of my tank top, which are supposed to be three inches, and i told him i wasn’t dress coding. he pointed to the side of the tank top. so my bra was showing a little bit.

you can hardly even see it. but when i move my arms back:

so, naturally, i said, “i don’t understand why this is dress-code.” and before he could say anything, i continued, “why is it bad that it’s showing? secret bra, secret boobs. secret secret.” which, as you might guess, made him a little fed up with me at that point.

he told me i could either cover up or go to the dean’s office and ask them if i was dress code of not, but i said, “oh, sure, i’ll go get a sweater from my locker if that’s okay. i just don’t understand why that’s fair when it’s one hundred degrees outside today.” i live in las vegas! and i’m not exaggerating. look.

so i told him i’d go to my locker and get a sweater. but i didn’t have a sweater in my locker, that’s ridiculous. it’s hot. so i hid in the art room and went to school for the rest of the day.

EDIT: i’ve worn this tank top and bra combo plenty of times in the past and i had never received word from any of my teachers or any of the staff until today, the hottest day so far.

it’s a nude bra that you can barely see unless you had been looking. given, i had been the only person sitting in the cafeteria when he told me this, but that doesn’t give you any excuse. a bra is just another piece of clothing and i don’t see how it’s fair that i’m covering everything up while some girls at my school are walking free with see-through shirts that show their entire bra underneath.

I hope everybody realises the following:

If you are told to cover up in such hot weather, here’s what you can do. You can point out to them just how hot the day is (the more accurate you can be the better, ask them to check if you like) and then, if they insist that you cover up with a sweater or something, you can tell them that they’re going to be the ones held responsible if you end up with heat stroke.

No, I’m fucking dead serious about this. Have them write a letter explaining that they wanted you to cover up and why. Ask them to describe what you were wearing and why it was inappropriate.

Then go and cover up. If you get remotely ill due to having to wear more clothes than you should be wearing during such hot weather (which is a legitimate health concern) you make it clear as day that you will be placing responsibility on the school and school staff that made you change. Get their signatures.

Refuse to put on any more clothing until they have given you the letter explaining what you were wearing, why they wanted you to cover up and until it has their signature on it. Don’t just sneak off and hide, I’m serious, do things this way.

Because I can guarantee the shit out of you that the instant you tell your school you will hold them personally responsible if you end up ill - which is an incredibly likely possibility in weather that hot - that’s the instant you’re proving to them that you aren’t just some kid who is too dumb to know about your own health and safety. You’re a kid who has the ability to sue the SHIT out of these people if they demand you cover up when you aren’t even wearing anything unreasonable and when the weather is that warm.

And believe me, the threat of being sued makes people reconsider the stupid shit they do very quickly.

I would imagine that this was - and still can be! - achieved by posture, presentation and atmosphere.

You see, people naturally give off an atmosphere about them depending how they stand and what they’re doing. If you see somebody walking with their face down, hands in their pockets, shoulders slumped and posture hunched forwards slightly, you instinctively know that they are trying to avoid any confrontation and you leave them alone.

If you see somebody with their back straight, head level, arms relaxed by their sides as they walk and a smile on their face, you are instinctively aware that they are not a threatening person and it’s safe to pass by them. (Not necessarily talk to them, but you will naturally move past or closer to these people without thinking about it because they do not present themselves as a threat or as unpleasant.)

So, with the story we see here, Marilyn would have a way of presenting herself while being the “Hollywood Marilyn”. Perhaps she would walk with a straight posture, maybe even with her back slightly curved and soldiers back to exaggerate breasts. Maybe she would keep her chin tilted just slightly upwards in a confident but comfortable mannerism, meet the eyes of people who walked by her with a pleasant but slightly coy smile on her face. I’m not saying she DID do these things specifically, but her Marilyn persona that she was famous for would have had these tells. That’s what this kind of body language can be called - it can be called a tell.

Actors can practise tells for the personas they play. This means they have this near awe-inspiring ability to switch tells on and off at any one time, changing not just the way they walk and appear, but completely changing who they are and how the world perceives them. This isn’t some mythical sort of ability only Marilyn had, and this is also a thing that you can achieve yourself. In fact, you do it yourself already.

You might not even notice that you do it, but your tells changed based on your mood and who you want to be in a specific situation. If you are surrounded by a bunch of laughing, drunk and rowdy men and you want to avoid a fight, you will naturally and instinctively make yourself smaller and less noticeable with different body language, effectively adopting the role of a totally different person or rank of person. Similarly, if you want to play peacock and you’re trying to show off, you will carry yourself in a confident manner that naturally draws attention to you.
